Zapatas Mexican Restaurant Collinsville Reviews
Eat outside May 12, 2010
We had just spent hours at a scrapbook convention at the Gateway Center and we were starving. Unfamiliar with the area, we pretty much determined our options from nearby restaurants (of which there are plenty). We decided on the Mexican restaurant right next to the convention center. And, since it was a gorgeous spring day, we asked to be seated outside.
Before we were even given menus or ordered our drinks, the chips and (spicy) salsa arrived. It was hard to choose, there were so many items, varieties of nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas and even house specialities. I had almost decided on the arroz con pollo, when at the last minute, I saw the enchiladas espinach (spinach enchiladas) and ordered that. Being 3:30 in the afternoon, it didn't take long at all for our food. It was really good; something different. The enchiladas espinach were four corn tortillas filled with fresh steamed spinach and drenched with enchilada sauce, that was mild and a little sweet. My friend got the arroz con pollo and it looked incredible, served with sauteed vegetables. Another friend ordered the chicken chimichanga (her standard order at a Mexican restaurant) and she said it was one of the best she'd ever had.
We did end up waiting for the bill much longer then we wanted, but they were quick to return with the credit card.
Getting to the outdoor seating, we had to walk through the restaurant, and it was decorated really neat. If it hadn't been so gorgeous outside, it would definitely be a fun place to eat. Plenty of seats, both inside and out, plus a large bar area as well.
