Zakrzowek Krakow Reviews
Amazing flooded limestone quarry for swimming / hiking / sunbathing Apr 01, 2011
Zakrzowek is a flooded limestone quarry and the local swimming hole in Krakow, Poland.
It is relatively unknown to tourists, but locals go there on sunny days to swim, scuba dive, sunbath and jump off the vertical cliffs into the amazing water (Cliffs from 5m to 15m height).
Apparently it's illegal to swim there as it's private property - but nobody cares about that and any fences put up around the area are promptly torn down.
It has the most amazing clear bluey/greeney coloured water I've ever seen in my life - the pictures really don't do it justice!!
I spent the end of summer going here everyday to jump off the cliffs and swim around before enjoying some Desperados.. which is Tequila flavoured beer from France and the favourite beer of lesbians in Poland. (Desperados really deserves a seperate review it's that good.)
The quarry is pretty easy to get to - From the centre of Krakow you can either catch a bus from Bastowa (Can't remember the number sorry) or a tram and be there in around 15 mins.
From the bus or tram stop it's a 10 min walk to the actual quarry, passing through a beautiful park complete with sweet sweet blueberries.
Definitely try to go here if you visit Krakow, and definitely jump off the cliffs into the water if you are hungover - it really is an instant hangover cure!
