This is always the worst part of the trip. The realization that it's time to go home. I don't think I've ever been ready to go home, no matter how long I've been away. This time is especially hard, having to leave my friend behind again for at least half a year, maybe more. We'd spent 3 weeks, …

I am trying my very best to keep up with this blog since I know many people are quite curious if I'm dead already or not (from starving myself). I am in Zagreb right now as it says here but I haven't done any touristy stuff yet because I arrived pretty late last night. It's 12noon now and I have un…

I tried to meet Zvonka after work each day, when I could get off my deathbed... This afternoon I had ended up walking far out of town, so tonight I had to rush to meet Zvonka after work. We decided to go on our big date to a little Indian restaurant that I'd seen the day before. Now Zagreb isn't…

Having already played in Vienna and Prague, this time it was off to Zagreb for the final of the Tri-Nations Australian Football cup between Austria, Czech and Croatia. We battled it out over 80minutes of pure sweat, mud, rain and maybe a little blood. Croatia won, but yours truly, Geno himself, came away with the Best&Fairest Player of the tournament! ;-D
All football photos are property of Monica Sax.

What's a Sljeme? It's the high peak of Medvednica Mountain overlooking Zagreb from the north. This is another well taken care of national park, popular with the locals on weekends. The heavily wooded mountain is topped by a huge communication tower, a couple "mountain houses" serving hearty food…

‘Okay man, there’s no food but help yourself to drink. The internet’s there, the drugs are over there, wait for the girls and okay, cool, I’ll catch ya later!’. A typically swift and super-chilled proclamation from ‘The Dude’, ’El Duderino’ and President of the future …

Edmonton, Canada -› London, England, UK -› …
This city is outstanding. it's about the same size as edmonton, but the sense of community and the vitality of the populace puts edmonton (and even some other european places we've visited) to shame. Its not a big tourist town at all (the vast majority of tourists spe…

The tour took us back to Zagreb where everyone else was flying out the next morning. My husband and I would be taking the overnight train to Venice instead. The bus ride back to Zagreb felt strange; we’d already said goodbye to these people and here we still were. I t…

Last day before going back home. We had a nice Sunday. No places were open but we walked around the city, went to the zoo, spent time at folklore festival and ate well again. The last Harry Potter was published the day before and we desperately tried to find some book store or anything where my fri…

Ok, so this isn't a blog about travelling, though it has something to do with travelling. We, students of Croatia, organised a huge protests against the government's plan to introduce obligatory tuition fees for all students..
This has been our travel beyond the reason, and beating the government's plans :)
Exactly 40 years after 1968th revolutions..
And this is a story how we became heroes :)

I adore Croatia. I grew up there so I guess I'm a little biased. But it really is beautiful. I love the cities, the country side, but especially the seaside. It really is a nice place.

We awoke quite late and both paid a little for the dark ale we consumed the night before. This couldn’t damped our spirits or lower our anticipation for the day ahead though. Croatia were to play Brazil in a World Cup group match and walking out into the main square we could already sense t…

As any world-traveler knows, one of the most exciting parts of visiting a new country is the addition of a new stamp to your passport. And if that stamp is unique and attractive then the country has a better chance of winning a positive review.
I have been traveling abroad since 1997, and have acc…
