There is something magical about the Yukon Territory that keeps drawing long-distance drivers, canoeists and cyclists. Very few people actually end up staying or living there, but everyone who goes through it has some wonderful, deceptively simple memory of a bear in Destruction Bay, an outdoor concert in Haines Junction, Northern lights over the frozen Yukon River, or a midnight beach volleyball game in Whitehorse.

It is a shame that so many people seem to consider it an obstacle to cross on the way to Alaska. The Yukon Territory is probably the friendliest part of any road trip up the Alcan. That says a lot about the people there, considering that any USA state getting so much through-traffic would probably end up hating the passing outsiders who spend little money locally.
