Yuengling Brewery Pottsville Reviews
Dec 28, 2007
We took a FREE tour of the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville. It is America's Oldest working brewery. Started in 1829 by a German immigrant. Mr. Yuengling chose the location of Pottsville because of it's large German and Irish immigrant population. The brewery is situated against a mountain that abled the brewery to have caves dug, the caves hold a constant temperature of 50 degrees, perfect for storing beer. During prohibition the government built brick walls around the caves to inable the Yuenglings from storing beer. This is also the same time the Yuenglings started an ice cream factory, rumored to store the beer during prohibition. There is also an Irish Catholic church 6 INCHES away from the brewery, this is also rumored to store beer during prohibition. Not sure which rumor is correct but it takes 24-28 days to create beer, on 1201 am the day prohibition was lifted the first case of Yuengling beer was shipped to the White House. It's a total awesome tour featuring lots of American history is a small North Eastern Pennsylvania town, the tour even includes free samples for those over 21. A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!
