Youth Hostel Rijeka Reviews
A pretty average hostel. Jan 17, 2011
A pretty average hostel, out of the way of the town. Well thats probably the best way to summarise this hostel. It is owned by HI (hostelling international) meaning you can use your HI card if you own one (if not you will be given one after checking in) which can give you a 10% discount.
The hostel is relatively small, with only 61 beds avalible, despite this you will likely still be able to get a room, as Rijeka is not as much of a tourist hotspot. It is located a 5-10 minute bus ride from the town centre, but this is walkable in 15 minutes (which will be nessisary since the only close facility is a children's playground).
Onto the hostel. There is a canteen present, though the timing is very strict for food, I found when I was there that the canteen closed 10 minutes earlier then it stated everyday, which was a little annoying first thing in the morning. The reception desk appeared to be unmanned for most of the time I was there, which I thought to be a little strange, just leave the front door totally unattended etc. In terms of facilities there were two out of order snack vending machines, and a couple of sofas with a mostly empty book shelf. A very plain hostel, but technically you are only paying for the bed right?
The rooms were very avarage, bunk beds with lockers provided at the end of the bunk, no real decoration to the place. I did also notice there were only two plug sockets visible in my dorm of 4 beds, which could cause issues. The bathroom was quite small, but at least there was a working shower with hot water.
All in all its a bland, small hostel, the lackluster facilities reflect price for the hostel. All in all, its not brilliant, but it does its job of providing a bed for the night.
