Spartan with a perfect location Apr 03, 2011
This place has insane character and if you're looking for a place to crash in a great location, you've found it.

Be warned: The showers smell like mildew, there's no A/C (very typical), and the room is tiny. If you've ever been camping, expect the same type of quality in the facilities.

The plus side: I loved the location, very close to the Pantheon and Notre Dame and right next to a Metro stop. The entire street is full of local meat, cheese and fruit shops in addition to several restaurants. A century or so old wine cellar in the basement is the kitchen and a tiny sprial staircase takes you up to the rooms. Once again, character.

There are no lockers, but if you read Rick Steves you'll know to bring a bike lock with you to chain your stuff to the bed. I felt extremely safe and the front desk staff were very helpful for information.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. A great backpacker place!

Despite the cheery name, this is without a doubt the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. First of all, the room I was staying in had no lockers. This wouldn't have been a major problem, except that the lock to the door of the room didn't work at all. Even if it had worked, it probably wouldn't have been much of a deterrent to theft because the door was so thin it could have been bashed in by a toddler with a nerf baseball bat.The first night I stayed there, one of my roommates was a crazy lady who continually talked to herself. The second night I stayed there, I think a homeless person wandered in off the street and occupied the bunk above me. The showers were as clean as the rooms were secure. Every tile was encrusted with a thin layer of grime, dirt and hair. In order to operate the shower, you had to push a button, whereupon a feeble stream of water would squirt out for the entirety of 2 seconds. Then you had to push the button again to get more water. You couldn't even hold the button down because it would mockingly reset itself after 2 seconds.Do yourself a favor and stay at a hotel if you're going to be traveling in Paris. The rates for hotels are nearly as cheap as the rates for hostels, and you'll have the comfort of knowing you can come back to somewhere safe and clean.
