Yoshida Yokosuka Reviews
Okonomiyaki and Spirits Jan 25, 2014
Yoshida is a restaurant and grill, specializing in Okonomiyaki. It is located just off the Yoko-Yoko highway and near the Shiori train station near the coast of Yokosuka, Japan. It also offers other dishes such as fried noodles and selections of beef strips. This mom and pop restaurant is not very large restaurant and is often overlooked by luminescent attractions surrounding the area (pachinko parlors, shopping malls, etc.).
For those not familiar with Okonomiyaki, it is a traditional Japanese dish that consists of fried cabbage, noodles, mochi, and cheese with an assortment of shredded pork, and seafood patted together to something appearing similar to an omelette. They are cooked like pancakes on a grill in front of the customer and layered with okonomiyaki sauce (similar to barbecue or worcester sauce), mayonnaise, green onion, and shredded dried ginger.
This type of eatery is found all over Japan under different restaurant names but I find myself drawn to this one in particular. I admire the fact that the servers prepare the meal for you because with most Okonomiyaki restaurants, the customers are usually left with the tools to grill. Yoshida also offers an excellent selection of alcoholic beverages. The cost of Yoshida is very modest for Japan but still pricey for the cheap tourist. A single serving for two would cost roughly 5000 yen.
In my remaining time in Japan, I may venture to this part of Yokosuka again and take my western guests here to experience Yoshida for the first time.
