Yosemite Vacation Guide

Home to dramatic cliffs, rushing waterfalls and tall sequoia groves, Yosemite is well known as one of the United State's most distinct and beautiful national parks.

The Yosemite Valley offers unparalleled experiences, from the grueling hike up half dome to a more serene trip down the Merced River in a tube. Experienced hikers and car tourists alike can enjoy the valley's varied sights, from Yosemite Falls tumbling 2,425 feet to the valley floor to the panoramic views from Glacier Point. The very adventurous (and experienced) can be found climbing up the sheer face of El Capitan.

The Vernal Falls hike, though somewhat challenging, can be done by most people and offers breathtaking views.

Outside the well-traveled valley, those in search of solitude can enjoy back country hiking and trekking amidst hidden waterfalls, expansive meadows and high peaks.

There are several entry points to Yosemite. From Fresno and the south, from Merced in the West, and from Tioga Pass Road from the northeast. That road is only open from about early June through September due to the elevations. But this road makes one feel as if they have driven to the top of the world. Breathtaking.

At the end of our hike, my friend and I decided it'd be a great idea to go into the water.  It was a sunny day, but we didn't realize that the water was melted icecaps and a frigid 30 degrees.  Still we went in, and it was so refreshing after sweating the entire day.  The next e…

When we were much younger, our summer vacations were quite different than the ones we take today.  Time and money were slim.  So we would drive up from southern California, where we lived at that time, to Fresno to visit with my wife’s family.  One year we were offered her fat…
