Choose a guided walk or go around on your own. It's a safe place to go wandering about even at night. I got ca…

Today we were up fairly early, there were many places we wanted to check out in York and also set aside some time for leisurely shopping :) We had found a cafe the night before that had pancakes on their menu for breakfast. So we

I travelled down the east coast to as far as Hull and then headed west towards York.
The driving was very green and beautiful and reaching York I was immediately struck with just how delightful this city is.
It's bustling, colourful, exceptionally green and extremely well preserved.

Spent the day in the historic Roman city of York .The city has ancient ruins mixed in with modern shops, offices , bars and restaurants .There were quite a lot of tourists visiting on the day from all over the world from the various languages I could hear walking around. It had been about 18 years since I visited so it was interesting to see it all again.I took a walk around the city walls, visited 'The Shambles', York minster and Cliffords Tower

From Edinburgh we headed south the next morning and our first stop was at Floor’s Castle, home of the Duke and Dutchess of Roxburghe. This is their permanent residence. The tour is nice, but we only get to see a few of the rooms and again, no pictures are allowed inside.
Next stop is Kelso, for …

Hello! I was lucky enough to go to York yesterday (with Peter). It was
really nice to be in a larger city...I mean I love Durham, but
sometimes you just need something a big bigger to take off the edge of
claustrophobia: York was a perfect solution. It's only 45 min away on
the train, which is …

For railway enthusiasts, York Railway Museam must be heaven - only mildly interesting for me. I did like the various Royal trains with their refinements, but I am sure someone with more knowledge and passion on the subject would get loads more out of it. (You may ask why on Earth would I …
