If peanut butter and jelly sandwich is quintessentially North American, so are soy milk (豆漿, dòu jiāng) and Chinese cruller (油條, yóu tiáo) to Chinese people. Yong He Soy Milk King is a very well known establishment in Taipei City especially during breakfast time. Some popular dishes offered here are baked sesame seed flatbread (燒餅, shāo bǐng) with egg filling (加蛋, jiā dàn) and Chinese cruller filling (加油條, jiā yóu tiáo), egg roll (蛋捲, dàn juǎn), sticky rice roll (飯糰, fàn tuán) and the not to be missed creamy soy milk. The soy milk can be ordered either cold (冷, lěng) or hot (熱, rè).
This restaurant is open for 24 hours from Tuesdays to Sundays. It is operated on a self-service basis with very high inventory turnover. Just to prove the point that this restaurant is that good, we went back there for breakfast twice. Pricing for breakfast inclusive of one rice ball, one egg roll with Chinese cruller, one basket with eight pieces of dumplings (小籠包, xiǎo lóng bāo) and two cold soy milk cost NTD185.
Directions: Take MRT to Daan station and come out from exit 5. Cross the road, turn left and walk for another 200 meters.
