Nice hostel in Salzburg Oct 15, 2010
Close to the train station, and relatively close to the city center, the YoHo International Youth Hostel is probably the cheapest place to stay in Salzburg, Austria. The directions are easy to follow from the train station, being precise by letting you know what businesses you may have to pass, like a gas station. And a sign outside, letting you know which building it is. Looking at the sign, you see the name “YoHo” is a play on the 2 letters of the words “Youth Hostel”. Corny, but funny.

Reception is 24 hours, with the staff being nice and helpful, whenever you have any sightseeing questions or concerns you may have, and book “The Sound of Music” tour with them as well. Speaking of “The Sound of Music”, as you walk down the halls, you see various scenes from the musical on the wall.

There is a bar and dining area, to hang out and meet other travelers. Also, that is where breakfast is served, and there a few options to choose, each priced differently. They include one with just toast and a drink, and another with all-you-can-eat, which would also include cereal. A good breakfast, and saves the hassle to have to buy food along the way.

There is a lounge to hang out or just chill or write in your journal. Some nights, the movie “The Sound of Music” is playing on the DVD player in the lounge, which does make sense, as Salzburg is associated with the musical. Also there, are computer terminals for internet access. You have to pay at the front desk, and the staff give you a password to log in. And the time does not get lost, if you decide to log off before the time limit expires, as you can use them at another time.

The rooms are very nice and clean, as you can get in them by a keycard. The keycard can also be used to lock or unlock the lockers. But you have to use it each time to lock and use it again to unlock.

Bathrooms are down the hall, with toilets in one room, and showers in another. The facilities are very clean and nice.

Laundry is 4 euros, and you have to obtain 2 tokens from the from front desk. One for the laundry, and the other for the dryer. Detergent is included.

Definitely a great place to stay at, being close to the train station. And at the rates they are charging, it would almost seem too good to be true.

Salzburg Hostel Apr 05, 2009
I have stayed in this hostel on three separate trips now. The location is hard to beat; close to the train station, short walk to the old town, in a quiet residential area, restaurants & bars a few blocks away, and corner market across the street.

In '05 while I was staying here Salzburg was in a heat wave, well a heat wave for them. It did get a little stuffy in the room even with the window open. Plus the bar was right bellow us so earplugs or some music on an mp3 player was necessary to help drown out the noise if one wants to hit the rack before midnight. In '06 I stayed in a large corner room that had no bunks, this room was GREAT!

In '09 I was in a much smaller room with bunks, but it was still an alright room.

Showers and bathrooms are the typical hostel ones. Overall it is a clean hostel.

No free wifi (they need to get on that!), laundry in the basement, but it does take quite awhile to do a load of wash.

I would stay here again on future trips to Salzburg.

Place to crash while waiting for train Dec 14, 2009
Well I never booked here I just arrived in the morning at 3am on the train went to the hostel and slept on the couch until 9am, had free breakfast and no one actually noticed, unless they just were being kind. The food here was very good and you can always pay for omlettes which are very tastey and got nutrition. There are lockers and the place seems really secure. After watching movies here I explored Salzburg and headed off to Bad Gastien. They have a good private room to watch movies and hang out and they are a decent walk away from the historic part of town. So it looks like a clean hostel so stay if in Salzburg overnight.

The place to stay. Definately. Oct 31, 2008
I was staying at this Hostel while I was in Salzburg. And I really enjoyed staying here. The staff were excellent and friendly. Breakfast was good and the prices were very good for dinner. I highly recommend the Grostl. Dorms are strictly seperated to boys and girls, damn.

The Bar was lively in the evenings, excellent for enjoying a beer and talking to fellow travellers. Also had some great conversations with the staff as well.

This is definately the place to stay while in Salzburg.

Yoho Youth Hostel Jul 16, 2005
One of the few hostels in Salzburg, this hostel is about a 15 minute walk from the train station but is beautifully located in the city of Salzburg. It's only a few minutes walk from the heart of the city and all the sites that the old downtown area has to offer. When I got there, the hostel was offering a free sightseeing trip up one of the larger hills in the area, so I took advantage of that and was rewarded with amazing views of the city, as well as a history lesson. I definitely would not have found this on my own! The hostel is also very close to the more modern section of the city with great restaurants. The inside of the hostel is nice and large, with several different sizes of dorm-style rooms. The breakfast area is loaded with all different kinds of food, but only some of it is free. Best hostel in Salzburg!
