Clean, friendly, economic, great breakfast and for a good cause Feb 12, 2017
You won't go far wrong if you decide to stay at this simple and wonderful guest house where the owner Nanbwe will make you feel like a member of the family. They don't have a website, nor take an advanced deposit but you can make reservations on their FB page. We arrived at 7 am after taking the night bis from Yangon and immediately we were given a glass of orange juice. The owner, Nanbwe was very helpful and answered our questions. Even though we should check in after 1 pm she served us breakfast which was enough to keep us going all day.

Breakfast consisted of---bottle of mineral water

unlimited orange juice

unlimited tea or coffee

water melon

eggs , either omelet or fried

unlimited toast

choice of jams

pancakes or Burmese sweet

bananas or other fruit

Nanbwe employs 7 young girls, all of which came from very poor families in the surrounding villages and not only gives them a good home but teaches them to read and write. The girls are so friendly and will carry your bags up to the room, or into the waiting taxi when you depart. They will also stand and wave you goodbye, thanking you for your stay. We left a good tip for the girls as we felt they exceeded their duties.

There is also a notice board where you can post your intended city tours etc, and it is easy to find companions to accompany you on taxi trips. Five of us took a 10 hour tour by taxi which cost 40,000 kyat between us, that is $6-7 each !

You can also rent bicycles or motorbikes at the guest house. There is also a small library and detailed tourist information on the walls. The guest house produces their own map with all the important attractions marked on it. The bedrooms came with a DVD player and you could help yourself from a selection of movies. The bedroom had a comfortable bed, a/c, fan and mosquito net.

The only problem was that the GH was perhaps 2-3 kms from the center of the city which was a 30-40 minute walk, 15 minute bike ride or a taxi ride. When Nanbwe books your onward tickets a minibus will pick you up at the guest house to take you on the journey or to the bus station.

If i returned to Mandalay i would definitely stay there again.

The lady owner and staff could not have done anymore for us. I believe she has just opened a new GH too.

'Yoe Yoe Lay' means simple in English. Well, from the photos here, this guest house really looks simple. However, if you were happy with their service, that's what matters the most!
