Sushi-tastic! May 17, 2008
I now love Sushi, and it's all thanks to Yo! Sushi at Silverburn! I'd always been sceptical, but this supremely fun way of eating and the huge variety of dishes available makes me keep going back over and over again!

I first tried Yo! in March 2008, when I'd met friends from school. None of us had Yo'd before but were up for the challenge. You sit either at a table or along a bar, and there's taps of still or sparkling filtered water, which is unlimited for £1. You can also order unlimited Miso Soup for £1.75, and Green Tea for £1.25. There are other drinks too! You also get little pots of picked ginger, a bottle of soy sauce and side dishes at each place too.

The way Yo! works is pretty simple. There's a conveyor belt running right around the edge of the table and along the bar top. You pick plates (which are about 15cm diameter) off the conveyor belt, and once you're finished eating the waitress counts up your dishes (there are 6 different colours ranging in price from £1.70 to £2.20 to £5) and works out how many of each colour you have and that how you get your bill, e.g., 6 pink, 3 orange and 2 purples.

The menu is great - it has pictures of each dish so you can identify what's going past on the belt. There's not a problem with taking the plate off the belt, having a look and putting it back (as long as you don't take the lid off or eat any of it)! The staff are also really helpful.

Pretty much everything goes around on the belt, ranging from Nori and Nigri to Sashimi and Maki. There are also Edamame beans, aubergine, tofu and salads which go around on the belt. It's pretty much luck what's there when you are, but if there's something you really want that's supposed to be on the belt and you can't see it, just ask and they'll make it if they can. It's great watching the chefs (who work on the other side of the bar, behind the belt) making your food to order!
You can order fresh hand rolls and hot dishes like Chicken Gyoza (like Chinese dumplings - so good), Prawn and Chicken Katsu (the meat is fried in breadcrumbs and served with fruity sauce) and Vegetable Yakisoba (these are some of my favourites).

There are three choices of deserts which go round on the belt too...there's glutinous rice cakes called Mochi which I'm not keen on (odd texture, funny taste), Dorayaki - which is pancakes stuffed with custard filling and served with a raspberry sauce and is yummy! There's also fresh fruit plates which are also great!

I'd highly recommend Yo! Sushi. It can get pricey if you just keep grabbing plates, but if you figure out what you want it's great value, and there's all those vitamins and things in fresh fish and veggies, etc, that are supposedly good for us too!
