In Fiji the main island is not very interesting, is better go to the quieter Yasawa Islands with beach-side village: thatched huts known as 'bure', coconut trees, swaying palms, crystal blue waters and a gracious welcoming kava ceremony.
For me, the most memorable aspects of Fiji were the open smiling faces and friendliness of these islanders who balance Melanesian, Polynesian, Indian and Western cultures

April 27South Sea Island is so small I could run around it and not get tired after several laps. We arrived here late, just in time for dinner. NO FISH! We actually had chicken. I was so happy. That night we got everyone together and decided to play games: Telephone was the best. For the rest of the night we just sat around and shot the bull. after a very long trip from Rome we get to Nadi (Viti Levu) where we start a combination of three cruises (3,4 and 7 days) for 2 weeks in the Yasawa and North-eastern Islands. A small ship (Cpt. Cook cruises), not so many passengers (30-70), great crew, very nice and different travel companions (some trouble with thei accents...) and really warm and oen local villagers. Weather at times problematic (wind, waves, rain) but mostly good. Very relaxing. Beautiful undersea scenery!

Before boarding the Yasawa Flyer, our group got to have our final breakfast & say 'goodbye' to 'Queenie', what a character he had, I'll never forget him. After another quick boarding of the Yasawa Flyer, I quickly said 'Hi' to Chris who had been staying at 'Bay Of Plenty' the previous night & asked him 'how was it?' He turned around and said to me, 'I was the only one on the Island'. At this point I was thinking how cool ot would be to be the only backpacker staying o…
