Best Way to See the Dry Tortugas! Amazing Experience! Jul 29, 2015
I wanted to do a write up on this unique travel experience to the Dry Tortugas from Key West via the Yankee Freedom III ferry. There are limited options, all of them pricey. However the Yankee Freedom III is the best way to go. We took the day trip, departing at 8:00am and returning around 5:30pm. Check-in was incredibly simple and efficient. Our guides were very nice and helpful. A continental breakfast is available right when you board including, bagels, fruit, cereal, etc. There are seats both inside and out. The ride out to the Dry Tortugas was beautiful and serene - it was such a treat to be out on the water so early in the morning. The seas were calm.

We arrived at Fort Jefferson around 10:30am, at which time we headed out to do some exploring around the fort. Lunch started at 11, it was quite tasty and filling. There were sandwich and salad options, with plenty for everyone. You have the option of going on a guided tour of Fort Jefferson (included in price), however we opted for a self-guided tour.

After touring and lunch, we went snorkeling (snorkel gear is provided). There is plenty to see in the calm waters surrounding the fort. This was the best part of the trip and well worth the price alone. After all said and done, we walked the fort for about an hour, two hours snorkeling, and a little relaxation on the beach. This trip was the best part of our getaway to Key West and we will definitely be back. I highly recommend the Yankee Freedom III, Dry Tortugas ferry.
