After having breakfast next to our gueshouse, we met Alan, our local guide again. This time our plan is to have bamboo boat rafting on Yulong River, Xingping town and Fishing Village. Firstly, we went to Xing Ping by mini bus (at the bus station in Yangshuo, there are regular mini busses to Xingping available). The trip to Xingping town took about 11/2 hours. After reached Xing Ping, we had lunch at his (Alan) relative's restaurant, it was really good. Then we took a small bambo…

Rain, rain and more rain in Guilin, flooding my hostel and washing down the dirty streets. During my busride to Yangshuo it's still pouring down, and I can't see anything other than thick white foggy clouds. However, as I arrive in Yanghsuo the weather clears a bit, and I'm hit by Yangshuo's beauty, full force. Quote me on this; Yangshuo is the most beautiful place on earth.
There you go, I've said it. Prove me wrong. I'm not joking here, Yangshuo will enchant you. It's magical, mysterious,…

Beautiful is a word that is tossed around too easily in travelling circles, in the same way that the sobriquet of “genius” is applied to far too many musicians. Every time I talk to fellow tourists, the places they have been are: "Just beautiful! You'll love it." Often, when I get to these places with expectations greater than Dickens's Pip, I end up a little deflated, thinking that it's rather more: “quite nice, if you like that sort of thing.” However, despite the hackneyed o…

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia), Daniel and Kitty (Sweden), Breanna and Darcy (Canada), Mr Wei and his family (China)
After seeing reviews on Hostelworld, we decided to pay a little more than normal to stay in a place called Culture House in Yangshuo. For 8 pounds ($15), we got a double room with air con and 3 meals a day, which we though sounded a little too good to be true. When we arrived into the bus station, we gave the owner Mr Wei a call an…

Today we got lost. Completely lost. And it was the greatest day. 3...2...1... life begins now.

@ Lijiang River Cruise
This river flows from Guilin to Yangshou and is the life and the reason for the incredible karst landscape. The views are great along the river and there are all sorts of odd shapes around like 9 Horses ( I swear I could only see 5). Definitely recommend this trip down the river to anyone. The cruise is abt 2hrs 45 mins and at a gd bargain, one cruise ship ticket costs about 235Y with lunch inclu. You can buy the ticket at any travel agent, hotel desk or tourism info …

Returning to my room after eating a spot of dinner I was caught off guard by a filthy cockroach scuttling across the floor of my room. With cat like reflexes I grabbed the nearest cup and slammed in down on the ugly blighter.
I left the room safe in the knowledge that I'd caught him and he wasn't going to crawl all over my face when I was asleep. Little did I know that he had a very different plan. On returning later to show George the size of the cockroach I'd caught he'd vanished fro…

So, now that I know I can steal photos, here is what my original hotel here in Yangshuo looks like, from its website Morningsunhotel.com. It's a delightful place, really, and now that I've had to move to the White Lion Hotel because the MS was full starting with the Chinese holiday, I really miss my little balcony. My room at the WL is as big as a double bed with about two feet around it on all sides and has a window only to the center stairwell area.&nbs…

Yangshuo is famous for it's limestone cliffs and the good atmosphere. I did found the cliffs and they are incredible but I didn't really connected to the atmosphere. I was hopping to find a small place where I can just sit down and relaxed but I found myself in the middle of some kind of a Chinese "Disney land", Not my cup of tea. So I did get to sleep as I was extremely tired after H.K and had to get used to the humidity (I don't use to live inside a cloud).
So I did sle…

My first return since a near death experience 14 years ago. The town (and country as a whole) has changed so dramatically I hardly recognize it. To the locals, my being here hardly bats an eye.

Today I decided to take another bike trip this time south towards Moonlight Mountain and the Big Banyan Tree. Didn't have a good start as the road was very busy with buses and trucks ... and hence dusty. It could have been worse as I met some people who said they were white (from dust) after being on one bad road ... little did they realise they were white anyway.
The mountain is just a normal Yangshuo peak except it has a hole near the top in the shape of a moon. It w…
