Yamashiro Hollywood Los Angeles Reviews
A Taste of Japan in Hollywood? Apr 07, 2015
Being a big fan of Japan I had already made a reservation to eat at the Yamashiro Japanese Restaurant months in advance of my arrival in Hollywood.
Yamashiro is about a 15 minute walk from the Chinese Theatre/ Wax Museum/ Madam Tussauds on Hollywood Boulevard.
As its on a slight mountain its a bit of a trek if your on foot, especially when its really hot! The staff at reception were quite surprised that I walked to the place but really, its not that difficult.
I arrived about 6.45pm just as the sun was going down. My seating was great, I was looking out over the city of LA and at the Japanese Pagoda in the restaurant gardens.
I wish I had taken some photos when it was lighter but by that point I was chugging down about a gallon of water to cool down from the trek!
I had the Seafood Tempura, Dessert Sushi, green tea and warm sake. When I ordered the warm sake I thought it was just going to be a shot which I was going to down quickly and leave but they bought a small bottle over and I ended up staying a further 30 minutes. In all honesty the food wasn't great, it was ok but not memorable and didn't have that authentic Japanese taste, certainly not worth the price tag. The dessert was very nice though and the staff were pleasant.
I walked around the place to have a good look around and it was all very clean and tidy and japanese. On the way to the restroom there is a poster of the film 'Memoirs of a Geisha' with Zhang Ziyi which gave me a big smile, I really like that film...and I really like Zhang Ziyi :)
The meal was expensive but I knew that when I made the reservation months ago. I looked at is as a holiday treat.
Id recommend visiting this place for the views and Japanese feel. If your just visiting to try Japanese food then there are several places along Hollywood Boulevard that do Sushi etc and are far cheaper.
