Beautiful spot in the jungle Apr 03, 2011
I spent a few days at the Yachana Lodge in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador in March of 2011. This place is a hidden gem. You have to take a long drive down rural roads to get there, and then a short boat ride before arriving at the lodge. However, once you get there, you are welcomed by amazing staff and the resident talking bird, Yolanda.

The food is fantastic and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Some of the possibilities for tours are a hike into the jungle, bird-watching, visiting a nearby high school, a cooking class, a visit to a local medicine man... and the guides who take you through all of this are absolutely fantastic. Fluently bilingual and very friendly, always ready to answer your questions and help you if you need it. Get some dragon's blood for those insect bites! They'll know what to do.
