A cosy farmhouse turned hostel overlooking the mountains and crystal blue waters of Husavik Sep 06, 2012
Tucked away in the outskirts of Husavik, this hostel which is a converted farmhouse rests amidst a sprawling piece of farmland. The website says it's about 40 km south of Husavik but actually isn't more than 10-15 km. There are well marked directions on the highway, and as you enter, with all the little hills you climb to get to the hostel, you know you're in for a nice experience.

The hostel is one of the best I’ve seen. It boasts of 2 houses, the main house consists of a reception, a very nice sit out, the hostel rooms and a wonderful kitchen with dining area. It’s really hard to fault the hostel – the bathrooms were spick and span, the lounge room was incredible with a modern surround sound speaker set and comfy leather sofas. The kitchen is big and self contained, and there’s a separate room with a fridge for the guests’ and the laundry. The beds are very comfortable, ample power points in each room and well insulated against noise. This is a hostel suited for both families and individual backpackers. Overall I’ll give this a 9/10 – deducting one point because of the inaccessibility if you don’t have your own vehicle.

I also appreciated how, like a lot of other Icelandic hostels ask you to leave your footwear before entering the main hostel area (just outside the reception). The entire hostel was very clean. What's even better - you get upgraded to a double private room free of cost, if there is a vacancy. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?!

If there's only 1 thing I can complain about, it's that there wasn't room in the kitchen to store your non-fridge groceries (like bread and cereal). We're expected to save it in our rooms.
