YHA Mei Ho House Hong Kong Reviews
Cultural kudos, but lacking in other areas Mar 24, 2016
Located in a historically and culturally significant Grade 2 listed building, these digs manage to be both evocative of their heritage (it’s converted from old social housing, created to provide accommodation to low-income families) and slickly modern at the same time. But, yet, it also lacks a certain something to make it feel totally unique in its own right.
Falling under the globally-renowned YHA umbrella, the hostel has all the features you’d associate with the brand: good service, helpful travel desk/tourist info, clean rooms (bathrooms are particularly impressive) and serviceable enough without being especially standout breakfast.
The rooms are pleasant enough, albeit somewhat lacking in character. However, the lockers are not especially secure as only the bigger padlocks will work with them, and the rooms are a bit cramped if you’re taller than about 5ft 5. The duvet is a bit stingy too! The reception area is nice, but in the later hours they do tend to play cheesy pop songs on a loop…I really could’ve done without back-to-back playings of James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful!
