Earl's Court YHA Aug 13, 2005

This was the first hostel I was staying in, as part of myÂ backpacker trip in the UK. I stayed for 2 nights - 13th and 14th nights. I liked the place. Very quiet area, stone's throw from the Earl's Court tube and filled with tons of Aussies and Kiwis - all v friendly and all. Nice atmosphere.

Only -ves I have against this place (mind, lovely place, but in comparison to YHA St. Pancras) are that there was some kind of stale smell in the rooms, the rooms need better ventilation. And somehow the website seemed very misleading to me (or mabye b'cos it's my 1st time in a backpacker's hostel?). Things like "safe provided to keep your things securely" whilst all that was provided to me was the safe and not the keys. Thank God I'd brought my own.

Also the concept of shared bathrooms for the floor isnt such a good idea. The bathrooms arent that well maintained too. One of the bathrooms was leaking and the whole area was wet as a result.

But very nice overall, had a good time and I will definitely be back!

I went to Earl's Court (or should I say Kangaroo Court) and it was quite a walk away to get to the YHA where I'd be staying for the next 2 nights. The checkin and all proceeded like a breeze. 2. Earl's Court and YHA I'd never… First day in London!

…sort out some ATM issues with Bank of America, and had to surf the Internet as well as meet my mate Prashanth who was staying the Earl's Court YHA. Had a quick chocolate croissant, and headed to Covent Garden. As you all know, Covent Garden is my favourite place in London after Earl's Court. And it's beautiful at 8am in the morning before the stores open and the crowds… Brisk London morning walk and off to Heathrow to pick my parents

We caught the Picadilly Line to Earl's Court and made our way to my home away from home, the Earl's Court YHA. The only disappointment this time was that we were given a basement room and an awful one at that. Not to mention that by the time we checked in - a few minutes past midnight, there were about 3-4 snorers… Arrival into London

It took me an hour to reach my home away from home - Earl's Court YHA. And London was so humid! I couldn't believe this was London, IN MAY! And coming from Texas and calling London hot, one can imagine how bad it must've been! I was looking forward to the stay at the YHA for 2 reasons… Entry into London

Earl's Court YHA. Surprisingly enough it all came together nicely! The place was packed when I arrived and being a pretty large sort of a hostel, that meant there were lots and lots of people in each dorm. Sadly, I had to be one of those… Waiting, waiting, waiting....

YHA London Earls Court Information and Description

Re-opened in March 2007 after refurbishment, this four star high quality and well located hostel is in the heart of a young, international area full of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Five minutes walk from Earl's Court and Olympia exhibition centres, it is also handy for access to Heathrow Airport which can be reached direct from Earls Court via the London Underground. Visit the numerous museums in South Kensington including Kensington Palace, the Natural History Museum, the London Science Museum and...(see more) the Victoria and Albert Museum, relax in Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, or shop until you drop in Harrods and Knightsbridge - all a 15 minute walk from the hostel. Also in the area you will find lots of local restaurants, pubs and cafes for all tastes and budgets. After a busy day, relax in the courtyard garden, watch some telly in our cable-TV lounge, surf the internet, or chill out in our quieter reading lounge. Whether you are an independent traveller or with family or friends we aim to make your trip as enjoyable and comfortable as we can, our friendly efficient staff are on hand throughout the day to help and advise you. ********************************************************************* Rooms are ready from 14:00 onwards. For early check in we have a luggage room that can be used free of charge. YHA Earls Court is a non-catering hostel, we have a self catering kitchen for guests to use which is open from 7am until 11pm. Wi-fi is provided in the building at a charge of £3 per hour. **************************PLEASE NOTE************************** This hostel is part of the Youth Hostels Association of England & Wales, which is a membership organisation. The prices quoted are members prices. A non-members supplement of £3 per person per night will be charged on arrival for those guests not in possession of a valid YHA England & Wales or equivalent IYHF/ Hostelling International membership card. An international membership for overseas visitors valid for one year can be bought on arrival for £10. YHA policy states customers under 14 years of age are not permitted to stay in shared dormitories, and those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian of the same sex who is aged 18 years or older. Anyone between the age of 16 and 18, if unaccompanied, must be allocated a private room or share with individuals of the same sex and age group. YHA strongly recommends that customers wishing to bring children under the age of 18 reserve a private room and do not stay in shared dormitories.
