Xpujil Vacation Guide
Xpujil is a small village on the road junction of the East-West highway between Chetumal and Campeche, and the road north to Mérida.
The town lies in the heart of Mayan country, with over 50 sites of Mayan ruins in an areas of less than 50 square kilometres around Xpujil. Many of these are largely unrestored, and some even undiscovered to this date.
The most visited is the small site of Becán which boasts some excellently restored temples, set against a striking jungle background.
Xpujil is also the gateway to the massive Maya city of Calakmul, 120 kilometres to the south.
Xpujil has several decent hotels and a few small restaurants to cater for the tourists exploring the surrounding area.
