Xishuangbanna is an autonomous Dai prefecture in Yunnan Province, China. The capital city is Jinghong. The official language is Dai language. Xishuangbanna means "twelve thousand rice fields". Xishuangbanna is famous among Chinese tourists but little known outside China.
Some of the tourist attractions in Xishuangbanna is Dai temples, tropical forest and national parks, visit to the local minority village, hotsprings, waterfall, wild elephant sanctuary or trekking. The most popular festival not to be missed is the water splashing festival in April. The most famous botanical garden is Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical garden in Menglun. Most tropical forest in Xishuangbanna is replaced by rubber plantations.
To get into Xishuangbanna by air, fly from Kunming and several cities in China. Other alternative is to take an overnight couch from Kunming to Jinghong. The journey is about 8 hours. From Jinghong, you can travel to Thailand by boat or take a bus to Laos.
