Xige Hotel Xiamen

Xi ge is an attractive and homely place to stay. It has 3 buildings (2-3 storeys each). It also seems to be a favoured spot for government people to stay (resort kind of a place) and travel groups for conferences. In fact there are 3 conference rooms (seat 3-, 100 and 300 people).

All rooms have internet, a clean bath with tub, aircon, fridge, coffee maker and the usual stuff. There are only 2 English TV channels, and about 85 Chinese ones. Viz. no foreign channels like CNN, etc. But that won't matter unless you plan to spend the whole day in the room...

An extremely and homely place. There a large banyan (or is that Baobab?) tree in the compound with lots of twittering birds... nice place to sit under in mornings. and sip tea...

Breakfast is buffet style - about 15 dishes, lots of breads, rice and juice. All Chinese dishes so it makes interesting eating - esp. for a foreigner.

Excellent and helpful staff, compensates for their limited English language skills. Charges are - about 300 RMB to 400 for a double room, including breakfast.

It's just a 10 minute walk from SM (on Jiahe road/lu) and a stones throw from Ramada, Sheraton, and Best Western. Xi ge itself is in a quieter place, but very close to a lot of streetside food stalls and just next to a large market (good for fruits!). The best part is it is non-touristy (or rather non-foreign-touristy) so there are no traps and it is a more local experience.

Definitely value for money.
(PS - their website sometimes does not open from other countries). Also it often does not turn up in google - you'd have to use baidu for that.
