still good May 10, 2013
I have been here several times and have to admit that I love this place. Although her review is a few years old now, Alicegourmet is right on in her descriptions. The owners now have added a second location in Venice and though not really walking distance to the boardwalk, it is still only a short drive away. The menu seems the same but I haven't been going long enough to know how much it may have changed. If you're in the area and you like sausage, Wurstkuche is defintely worth checking out. I recommend the duck & bacon with jalapeno peppers sausage and the buffalo, beef & pork with chipotle peppers sausage. Both very tasty.

An extraordinary & exotic Sep 17, 2009
I went there with Tracy (TRE69) for the mini meet up for Julien (tuxqc) from Montreal and Chanjira (jane3181) from Bangkok. The restaurant, situated in a former print shop, is located in Los Angeles' historic Art District. The decor is in a starkly modern-industrial style with concrete floors, exposed brick walls and blond-wood counters. This restaurant is specialized in gourmet and exotic sausages, Beligian fries and a great selection of Belgian and German beers. Wurstkuche has 6 Classic Sausages [$6], 10 Gourmet Sausages [$6.75], and 5 Exotic Sausages [$7.75]. All will serves with any 2 of caramelized onions, sauerkraut, sweet peppers & spicy peppers. They have 5 different mustards available (self-serve). Another highlight is the Beligian Fries (double dipped fries) that serves with choice of 10 dipping sauces (Sweet & Sassy BBQ, Buttermilk Ranch, Thai Peanut, Tzatsiki, Chipotle Ketchup, Curry Ketchup, Blue Cheese Walnut & Bacon, Sundried Tomato Mayo, Chipotle Aioli, and Pesto Mayo) [Small $3.5, Large $5]. You can even top the fries with White Truffle Oil Glaze [$1.5].

I ordered a Bratwurst Sausage with caramelized onion and sauerkraut and a glass of Floris Apple Ale. I didn't order the fries because I had a late lunch and don't have enough room for it. The seasoning of the pork was very nice and I like the natural casing of the sausage. The condiments goes great with the sausage. Even though I'm not a big fan of beer, the apple ale tastes really good and it was perfect with the bratwurst.

Can't help going back to try their exotic sausages a month later. We tried the Alligator & Pork, Smoked Andouille Sausage; and Rattlesnake & Rabbit with Jalapeno Peppers. Of course, we can go with the Beligian fries with came with curry ketcup and Chipotle Aioli. Both of them are very good...but I prefer the rattlesnake & rabbit. The fries are perfectly fried, very crispy outside but soft inside and dipping sauces are very unique and tasty.

You have to order your food and beer at the front entrance. And then they will bring your food to the table. This place is quite popular and wait in line is expected. Finding a table/seats are challenging, even they have a good number of seats. If you want to avoid the crowd, go there before 6p.m. or go there after 9:30p.m. I'm so sure that I will go back again. Who wants to join me next time?

During Friday or weekend nights, they will have DJ to play some music. It's a great casual place to have couple of beers and gourmet hotdogs with friends! =)
