Wrenkh Restaurant & Wiener Kochsalon Vienna Reviews
Hit and miss at this well-known Vienna restaurant Apr 25, 2016
N48°12.594' E16°22.360' the owners, Leo & Karl Wrenkh, have published a cookbook called "Vom Glück Gemeinsam zu Essen", because they known how to live a happy live: with a rich filled table full of fast dishes. We took the gamble that these fast dishes would be very tasteful in March 2016.
This longstanding vegetarian restaurant also serves a handful of meat and fish dishes in their front and back dining rooms. There is a separate room for cooking classes. We ordered shredded potatoes with roasted vegetables and herb dip (Erdäpfelschmarrn mit Röstgemüse & Kräuterdip) for €9,50. The grated crispy grilled potatoes were prepared with marjoram, oregano and thyme and served with roasted seasonal vegetables and herbed goat cream cheese-dip. Nicely presented and an excellent combination of flavours. Delicious food for a small amount of money.
The steak-salad, green leaf salad, balsamic dressing, with grilled beef or chicken strips and Salsa Picante (Steak-Salat, grüner Blattsalat, Balsamicodressing, mit gegrilltern Rinderfilet oder Hühnerstreifen und Salsa Picante) for €11,50 did not impress from the start. It was not presented well. Just a bag of iceberg lettuce with balsamic vinegar in a bowl with slices of grilled meat and little chopped tomato between it. In flavour, the meat and lettuce did not make a good combination at all. It was simple soulless food everybody can prepare himself from supermarket ingredients. It was food to fill the stomach, not to excite the taste buds and to be remembered. We were very disappointed.
The brothers Wrenkh may be teaching others to cook, but their hit and miss menu does not justify their culinary status.
