Running a hostel... This is how it should be done!!! May 11, 2013
Wombat's in Berlin was the first hostel of the chain I stayed at, and one thing's for sure, it certainly was bustling ALL the time!

Initial experience at the reception on arrival was pretty good, with the staff being very welcoming, and giving a great run-down of the do's and don'ts at Wombat's. Check in was by no means tedious, and my personal opinion is that all the staff at Wombats Berlin, despite being extremely busy all the time, are all really cool and really know how to make a traveller feel welcome.

The lobby/lounge area has a pretty decent ambiance, with well stocked vending machines and plenty of information on display, of things to do in Berlin.

The rooms are very spacious and were very clean, although it did appear that on a couple of days during my stay there, housekeeping didn't look like they had visited the room that day. Meh! That could well have been thanks to some room mate who was recovering from the previous evening!

Toilet/shower facilities in the rooms were good as well, and so were laundry facilities (in the hostel's basement).

The WomBar on the top floor of the building had a magnificent atmosphere, and was very happening on all the nights I patronized it. It proved to be a great place to bond with the other travellers and share experiences and make plans etc. Again, it was probably greatly thanks to the staff who really know how to keep the crowd going!

The location of Wombats in Berlin proved to be so convenient, it's crazy! Walking distance from the Alexanderplatz U-Bahn stop, its easy to get to almost any sight or attraction around Berlin, and if one wants a nice walk to get some sight-seeing done, the route from the Reichstag/Brandenburg Gate back to Alexanderplatz cover a lot of Berlin's wonderful sights, such as Parisier Platz, the Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, the Fernsehturm (TV tower), and lots more, ending up at Alexander Platz, which is a wonderful place to just chill out in the evenings and have a beer or two, some food, and to enjoy some form of live entertainment.

All in all, I think this hostel proved to be great value for money, and I would definitely go back there, and highly recommend it to anybody.

Excellent social hostel Sep 06, 2011
Very good hostel: Seemed like a good neighborhood, right by a U stop, free wifi, pay computers available, laundry, clean rooms, very secure card key lockers in rooms, good beds, decent breakfast, and...

GREAT BAR! Their bar is on the roof top and acts as another common room to get to know travelers. I lucked out with good roommates at this hostel and I generally agree that the Wombat's chain is better for groups, but solo travelers could do a lot worse. Its pretty easy to finish a day of sightseeing and head up to the bar for a pizza and happy hour. You can mingle outside on the deck. Pool table and an addictive but money devouring coin toss game for shots are nice touches.

Pub crawls and tours are available.

You could get a little closer to some attractions, but this place is right next to a U stop (and a slew of other hostels). Once you figure out the trains you can get anywhere in Berlin in a flash.

I may seek something more intimate and cozy for solo travelers next time I'm in Berlin, but this particular Wombats is one of the best hostels in Europe and I'll most likely wind up there again.

Great bar Apr 03, 2011
The people here were very helpful. There are plenty computers if you need to stay in contact with the world, although there is a charge.

The loung area is glass roofed and pretty nice, the bar serves great drinks for pretty cheap and there were always people mingling downstairs to hang out.

The hostel connects you with a really good walking tour that picks up at the hostel lobby. Hopefully Ozzie still runs the thing because he is absolutely hilarious. For a run through of the Munich highlights make sure to do this tour. You'll see the glockenspiel chime, get beer at a beer hall. It's one of the "free" walking tours where you tip the guide at the end.

I loved Munich, I recommend taking some extra time here and enjoying the great people, drinking and food.

I would stay at this hostel again.

Cheap, Comfy and Great Location Jun 26, 2011
I travelled to Berlin in Easter 2010 on a spur of the moment trip on my own.

I will admit I chose Wombats as the name reminded me of Oz and thought that it couldn't be that bad :-)

The actual hostel was easy to find, close to the metro and city attractions. The rooms were clean and tidy and the staff were friendly.

The hostel did not have a communal lounge but did have a great bar on the roof with a great beer garden.

Affordable accommodations, a quick stop next to the U2 line Mar 13, 2011
Excellent accommodations if you don't mind taking the hostel route. Stayed at the Wombats back in 2009 on a topdeck tour of Scandinavia. shared a 4 hostel bedroom with three tour buddies. You get an ensuite bathroom (bathroom in your room). The room and lockers are activated by your key card. No towel rental fee. Beds are of the simple variety, two wooden bunk beds. Free wi-fi down in the lobby, you'll need to get the password from the ppl checking you in. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome bar on the roof, excellent way to meet fellow backpackers and travelers from all ages.

You are about a five minute walk away from the tv tower and there is a pretty good bar down the street that you can grab a pork knuckle and beer on the cheap.

Affordable and great mix of people. Jun 03, 2011
Great hostel for meeting people and discovering the city of Berlin. They have a penthouse with pool table and bar, which was great for meeting fellow travelers.

It's not the cheapest place in town, but reasonable in price and nicely situated.

You should definitely give it a shot if you are in the area.

Nice hostel. Rooms are nice and spacious as well as equipped with their own shower and toilet. 24 hour reception where there is computers (which you have to pay for) with internet access and wi-fi if you need it.

Location is a little out of the way, lockers provided in every room and security keycards also provided.

People working at the hostel were extremely inviting and loved having a chat.

The bar upstairs has a nice atmosphere without being too extravagant. Not too quiet and not too loud. There is also an outside area which overlooks the city.

I would stay here again and happily recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Berlin.
Don't mind the mess. :P
