Very good place to stay Apr 04, 2013
Very good place to stay in the centre of Berastagi.

We paid 100,000 Indonesia Rupiahs (about 7.50 euro) for good sixe twin room with ensuite and balcony. No hot water.

Very convenient location with bus station, restaurants, cafes, shops etc located within a couple of minutes' walk.

Downside of this was that it could be noisy from traffic but it was not too bad.

Nice common areas and garden. Good food served at reasonable prices.

Friendly, helpful staff. Tours and tramsport can be organised here.

Free wifi.

All in all, I was very happy with my stay, would stay again and can very highly recommend.

Wow - 7.50 euros! Is Indonesia generally that inexpensive?

basic accomodation with amazing food Mar 30, 2013
This guesthouse was recommended to me by a girl that runs a guesthouse by the same name in Danau Toba, and it was also the bus' first stop in Berastagi, so I spent 2 nights here. The only reason I made to Berastagi was to climb either one of the 2 volcanoes in the area. The guesthouse was decent, the bed was pretty comfy, and the room was reasonably clean. There was a nice garden area, and patio furniture in front of the bathroom ensuite rooms, which started at 100,000 rupiah (about $10) per night. The western style toilet, though, had no western style flush. There was a large bucket of water, and a plastic utensil for pouring in the bowl when done doing your business. The showerhead was right over the bucket of water. It was a teeny bathroom, with no hot water, but it did the job. The staff was amazing, and the food was as well. There was a plethora of information about the town and surrounding areas, and the woman that runs the guesthouse also teaches local girls English, so there were no communication problems there :) I recommend this guesthouse for budget travelers; there are also rooms with a shared bathroom, and those are cheaper!
