Many other ethnic festivals dominate the lakefront festival grounds. Madison is the state capital city and the home of the flagship of the University of Wisconsin system, drawing students from all over the world. It makes for a tremendous blend of people.
It is known as "America's Dairyland,". Though California now outproduces Wisconsin by volume of cheese and milk production, Wisconsin still boasts the largest variety of award winning cheeses, more than any other state in the country. Citizens of Wisconsin are referred to as Wisconsinites or "Cheeseheads," because of the prevalence and quality of cheesemaking in the state, and for the novelty hats made of yellow foam in the shape of a triangular block of cheese made popular by the fans of the state's professional football team the Green Bay Packers. Contrary to perception of the state's residents, people do not regularly wear cheesehead hats out in public unless at Lambeau Field or watching a Packers or Badgers game on the road.
