Best place to start a night out Aug 06, 2009
The Union Terrace is a delight and might be the most perfect place to drink beer in all of Wisconsin. It is set in a great location on the shores of Lake Mendota. The Union Terrace is the outdoor portion of The Memorial Union. The Memorial Union is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The Union itself offers a wide range of activities all throughout the building. Hoofers, the Union's outdoor and recreation club, has sailboats, which make a great sight as you sit on the terrace and enjoy a pitcher of the finest local flavors.

The Wisconsin Union is recognized by all who have been there by their distinctive, and colorful, chairs. These yellow, green, and orange chairs and tables dot the terrace landscape. You can also indulge in another of Wisconsin's finest traditions, the bratwurst. If you're not up for a bratwurst then feel free to grab a hot dog, burger, or any other grilled meat for sale.

All throughout the summer there are bands that play so you can spend the entire night there, or just make it a happy hour stopover. A great place to meet up with friends.

To top off your enjoyment of grilled meat and pitchers of beer you can step inside The Wisconsin Union and indulge your sweet tooth with some Babcock Hall ice cream. Few, if any, other universities have an on-campus dairy that makes its own ice cream. Try the Berry Alvarez, named after Wisconsin's legendary football coach. As you'd expect from America's Dairyland, the ice cream is fantastic.
