Winthrop Overview

Winthrop is a tiny little town in the Okanogan of Washington State. It is one of the “gateways” to the North Cascades, an area of mountainous beauty. The population of this little town is less than 400, but has the look and feel of an old 1800s mining town. There are many buildings in town that are of the American Old West design.

The town is also the staging area for various horse packing and horse-back riding activities. It is also a great starting point for various outdoor activities such as cross country skiing in winter; hiking, biking, river rafting, hunting and fishing in summer. The edge of the North Cascades National Park borders Winthrop just to the West.

Just under 7 miles outside of the main town is Sun Mountain Lodge, a popular vacation spot and jumping off point for some of the area's beautiful trails (for hiking and biking in the Spring & Summer, and snowshoeing in the Winter).
