Relaxing Wine and Cheese Getaway Mar 16, 2008
While my parents were visiting me in San Antonio, Tx we decided to take a day trip to Fredericksburg, Tx.

It was a relaxing day of walking down their Main St. where you can walk and drink a glass of wine or sip on some Texas beer while window-shopping. The people and atmosphere was friendly. We then went to the Fredericksburg Winery, this was our only disappointment on the trip. As we walked into the winery it seemed cold, cramped, and the service wasn't up to par. The lady that helped us seemed to be in a hurry to get on to the next customer.

Luckily, we stopped at our next winery called Water 2 Wine. We were greeted by a violin player as we entered and they had set out a nice spread of food: meatballs (DELICIOUS), cheese, and other desserts that were all complimentary. We were allowed 5 free tastes and were not rushed. We sat and enjoyed ourselves and our wine-helper was always there to answer any questions about wine. Even after we had finished our 5 free tastes, he offered my mom a additional taste after she discovered a brownie. He offered her a port that complimented the brownie.

I must mention that usually all tastes are free for a certain amount and they do have crackers and cheese to cleanse the palet. The only place that required a $5 fee for 5 tastes was Torre Di Pietra. But they had live music and dancing which was quite pleasent.

This is a wonderful day trip that is very relaxing and enjoyable. I must it is also cheap due to the free tastings, unless you want to purchase wine at each winery (then I must say it does get a little expensive).
