Winchester, Virginia, is a market town and college town in the Shenandoah Valley. It's long been known as an apple production and distribution center. The Apple Blossom Festival engages the town and surrounding area each May. Historic Winchester has played a role in the Colonial era, the American Revolution, and the Civil War. George Washington held his first job as a surveyor here and Stonewall Jackson made it his headquarters during part of the Valley Campaign.
Winchester today is home to Shenandoah University and during the summer, the Shenandaoh Summer Music Theatre. Many interesting restaurants grace the old downtown. Winchester is located on I-81, an easy 90 minute drive from Washington, DC.
