Wilmington has become a popular tourist destination because of its four-season climate, the preservaton of its colonial historic district, and its faboulous beaches.
Wrightsville beach is a haven for surfers, sailors and beach bums a like. The best waves can be found on "Mace" or Masonboro Island an 8 mile pristine uninhabited island that is only accesible by boat or paddling across the channel on you board from the south end of WB.
Wilmington is also know as East Hollywood in the film industry. It is home to Screen Gems studio which is the largest outside of Hollywood. Wilmington was home to the series Dawson's Creek, Matlock and the American Gothic Series. Also, Maximum Overdrive, Sleeping with the Enemy, TMNT, and Weekend at Bernie's were filmed there.
