Wild West Bar - Tiruchchirappalli - TravBuddy

I've been to some strange bars in my time, but this one is definitely up there. Here, in Trichy, a medium-sized city smack dab in the middle of Tamil Nadu, is one of the last places I would expect to find a wild-west themed bar. But the 'appeal' of this place goes far beyond the fact that it's wholly unexpected, because it's over-the-top to the point of being totally bizarre.
You walk in through the obligatory saloon-style doors, and are greeted by a variety of kitschy decorations. There are mannekins (seemingly straight from western department stores), in a variety of odd poses: one guy is slumped in the corner looking like he had one too many whiskeys, another women is leaning out a fake window over the entrance to the bar, holding her stomach as if she's about to yak all over the patrons walking in and out. There are hand painted wanted signs on the wall, with some hilarious portraits. Even the windows are frosted with massive pictures of cowboys and indians (actually I guess to avoid confusion 'native Americans' is the better term to use here). The waiters in formal tuxedo shirts add to the strange atmosphere, although I'm not sure if it would be better or worse if they were in jeans & flannel shirts with handkerchiefs around their necks. And the seats at some of the tables are swivel chairs that would seem more at home in a fast-food joint than a wood-panelled bar, although after a few drinks they could provide an entertaining diversion...

So if you find yourself in Trichy longing for a beer AND a good laugh, this is the place to go. It's not cheap (rps 115 for a beer) but definitely worth it in terms of entertainment value for your money...
