White Moose Lodge Healy Reviews
Staying almost in Denali National Park for a reasonable price and far away from the touristy mess Sep 01, 2011
A disadvantage of the National Parks is that the area near their entrances is usually becoming a Las Vegas Strip like environment. Busy, a lot of hotels, lodges and tourist shops. The entrance of Denali National Parks suffers from the same "disease". If you don't mind driving about 10 miles before getting to the park the White Moose Lodge is probably the perfect choice.
It is nicely located to the north of the entrance of the park, along the Parks Highway, but far enough away to be quiet. The forest-like environment of the hotel indeed gives that lodge-feeling. For the rest the White Moose Lodge could better be named White Moose Motel. There is no classic lodge building, no lobby with fireplace etc. The rooms are just motel style next to each other with entrances at the outside.
The rooms are maybe a bit small, but clean, offer TV (with limited cable channels), and free (and pretty good) WiFi. Parking is free and so are the complementary danish, coffee, and tea which are served every day for breakfast. (The orange juice listed on the website was not available during my stay!)
There is a nice terrace like place to eat outside, as well some tables in the field facing the hotel.
Healy offers two gas stations, several restaurants and stores as well.
