Whitby, Yorkshire, U.K. Day Trip Visit - (Ideal when the weather is Fine). Aug 22, 2011
A day trip to Whitby, Yorkshire for the first time ever was totally worth it! Just north of Scarborough on the east coast of England ( another U.K. Favorite seaside resort when we have the weather) A fishing harbor/come beach, where Captain Cooke sailed from ooh Aah!! with its own Abbey. The Abbey is situated on a Hill over looking the harbor. Droves of people hike up the 199 steps in order to explore the ruins and get a fabulous view over looking the harbor/ beach and surrounding area. Today was a glorious August day, full of sunshine, people having fun, eating ice cream, Fish'n'Chips (Locally Caught)and taking a step back in time and riding the steam powered vehicles around the resort or the open top double decker town tour bus. There is so much to see and explore not only in Whitby but the whole Yorkshire area including the Moors National Park. A day here is definitely too short. A weekend at minimum is recommended But a week would be just right.

I will surely go back and explore it some more, some day!

Gorgeous ruins on an amazing clifftop May 20, 2004
Whitby Abbey is one of my favorite places in Yorkshire. It might be in ruins but they are so beautiful and if you catch it on a sunny day it's a stunning view from the clifftop. There is a great museum/visitors center right next to the ruins which goes into depth the history of the Abbey. I wish we'd had more time to linger here and just take in the beauty and the majesty of the place. It's easy to imagine Whitby Abbey in it's heyday with gleaming stain glass windows. I hope someday to go back and stay a little longer.
