Drinking in Doha, Qatar Jun 11, 2008
Went to Doha for some Gov business and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Doha. Very plush hotel but very expensive. You can only find beer and adult beverages in the hotel resturants and bars. A 12 Oz Bud light runs you QR40/$11. Mixed drinks are about double. The pool there is really nice!
Next to the Ritz is the Admirals Club. Not very exciting until the locals show up around 1am. VERY LOUD!!! Ladies in Qatar are pretty, but very reserved when it comes to meeting new people. Guys are very friendly there and easy to talk to. Didn't have time to search the local night life, but from what I gathered from the locals, the hotel clubs are the best places to go. Marriot has a nice club attached to it. If you are looking for a good authentic feel check out the Old Suke by the Centeral Bank. It is an awesome place to get gifts and local garbs. You can also check out the new Islamic Arts Center which is scheduled to open the Summer of 2008. All in all a lovely city for being in the middle of the desert. It's brutally hot in the summer in Doha. 113 deg F walking around and at least 130 on the Tarmac. But the locals are friendly and they love Americans. |

Now our site was 40 km south of Doha, in the middle of no where. Totally isolated, no support available. What was my goal? Simple, get the site set up. And when the dredge started working I would then go on a well deserved holiday. The project …… What can I say? |
