Wharariki Beach Holiday Parks Reviews
Peace and quiet Aug 08, 2012
I love this camp site. It is about an hours drive from Collingswood, located near Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit. It is a very basic campsite with powered sites, some unpowered sites and a couple of cabins. There is a large kitchen dinner, seating outside to enjoy the views, a washing machine, a washing line, a couple of showers (which you have to pay for) and some long drop toilets. There is also a small play park.
The owner is a great guy, he told us about all the different walks, the best times to see the sun set and rise. There are also 2 horses that just wonder around, some chickens and a couple of peacocks.
There are many different walks to do around here. We did two of the walks, once was about and hour return (can be longer if the tide is right), which goes through fields of sheep and comes out on rocks where you can walk back to the campsite along the beach. The other walk is about 20 minutes one way which comes out next to some massive sand dunes and a great big beach. Where if you are lucky seals sleep.
There is no dump station or any shops near by so make sure your camper vans waste is empty and you are stocked up on food and water. The owner did offer us water to fill up arr water supplies.
I will be staying here again as it is a great place to get away from the crowds and to just relax on a empty beach. You could also clearly see the stars at night.
