Westwinds Inn Key West Reviews
WestWinds Inn – Jun 18, 2014
From outside the building looks very nice, with traditional two storey building made from wood and two American flags flying on each pillar guarding the door entrance. I feel like I need to salute the flags before enter the door.
The reception was not that friendly, did not speak much – basically just check our booking paper and then give the room key and mention that we would not be staying in the main building, instead our room located at different building which also own by the same hotel, but no reception or security guard at the property where we stay. And we are not allow to park the car outside the main building and we need to park in the public parking area with a fee. Luckily we managed to find a free parking spot somewhere on the street near our hotel.
After we find the hotel building which we suppose to stay overnight, which located a couple house away from the main hotel, we go up to the second floor where our room located. The front door was open from 9am until 10 pm at night time and after that we need to use the key supply to open the door if come back late at night.
The room itself looks like an attic room with part of it has a low roof especially where the cupboard located, but it is quite spacious, with very comfortable double bed and plenty of pillows and also lazy sofa to sit and relax and small round table near it. Wifi is free in the entire building. We found a note at the kitchen table from the hotel manager welcoming the guest which is quite nice. The kitchen located at the far wall inside the room and a microwave, but we did not use it since we only stay for one night at this place.
The bathroom itself very small and no ventilation on it which make it very hot and humid after having a hot shower. At least it has a glass shower and the hot and cold water work well. Plenty of towels supply in the bathroom and free soap and shampoo.
The air condition work well.
The room cost over usd300 per night for two people including breakfast.
There are two outdoor pools behind the main building, however it seems too small to swim there – it is probably more for a dip. And a hotel small library has plenty of books collection – mostly novel and sofa to sit and read.
The location is very good, within walking distant to all the sights, from the beach, to the many souvenirs shops, local restaurants and historic houses around the area.
The breakfast serve at the main building at the garden in the back and the food was quite nice but not much choice especially for warm food. It was more like a continental breakfast with plenty of bread and muffins. For the price pay per night – probably this hotel is on the expensive side compare with facilities and the breakfast serve, but it is an expensive city as it is the playground and retreat place of the USA President Harry S Truman and it called a second white house during his Presidency tenure.
