Westminster Tea Rooms Southport Reviews
Worth a visit Jun 09, 2013
The Westminster Tea Rooms are situated in the town centre. Once you step through the door you step back in time. Wood panelled walls, tables laid with crisp white linen cloths and napkins, waitresses dressed in traditional black dress with white aprons and headgear. Crystal chandeliers, art deco ornaments, and old style music playing softly into the tea room all add to the experience and atmosphere.
We have taken afternoon tea here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed with the quality of service or food.
There is a vast menu, but by far the most popular is their range of afternoon teas, we opt for the 'Duchess' which consists of four finger sandwiches with a filling or your choice (I opted for cheddar cheese and grape, chicken, prawn mayonnaise and ham), fruit scone with butter, jam and clotted cream and five small dainties, together with a pot of tea or coffee of your choice. Another lovely touch is that the tea/coffee is served from silver service and the tea is actually leaf tea (not tea bags.) Everything is served on china crockery from a three tiered cake stand.
Although service can be a tad slow on busy days, the wait is worth while. The sandwiches are freshly prepared and are served on the first tier, the five dainties on the second tier and the scone is served on the top tier under a little silver hood to keep it warm!!
On first impressions there does not look much food, but believe me there is ample, added bonus is doggy bags are available on request should you not be able to plough through all the cake in one sitting.
The only negative comment is that it is a bit of a squeeze on a table for three/four people dining given the amount of crockery silver service and cutlery.
Reasonably priced too -Duchess Afternoon Tea £12.95 per person.
