Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa Rancho Mirage Reviews
Normal resort, but not much character Jan 20, 2011
Lisa and I stayed here because we had never visited Palm Springs before, and we were able to get this place on Priceline for ~$92/night. We only spent one night here, but that was probably enough.
Location: It's actually about ~20 minutes or so from downtown Palm Springs. Like most resorts in Palm Springs, and Palm Springs in general, it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. It's a featureless turnoff off of a featureless road off a featureless freeway.
The resort felt the same way. It felt slightly above average, but there was nothing unique or interesting that really stood out. I felt like I was walking around a retirement home -- not because the guests were necessarily old, but simply because the buildings and design of the place seemed so colorless and bland.
The rooms were an odd mix of newly remodeled things (nice bathroom counters and sinks) and stuff that looked left over from the 70's (long neglected patio furniture that you might find at a garage sale). They were not bad, but again lacked any sort of unique character or positive features that you might remember. The bed, however, was exceedingly comfortable.
Service was not really what you would expect from a nice resort. The lady who checked us in sounded like she was just reading from a script -- a minor detail, but added to the lack of uniqueness about the place. No one held the door open for us or offered to carry our bags when we approached the lobby, much less carry our belongings to our room.
Apparently there is a very nice golf course here. If you like to golf, then it may be worth checking out. But even so, you might be better off staying somewhere else, and only visiting for the golf.
If I returned to Palm Springs, I would look for a place with more character.
