A weekend Getaway at a Spa Resort May 25, 2008
I, always take weekend breaks and of late, resorts seem to be my newest thing, lol!. Last weekend My friend Guy (www.travbuddy.com/proud-to-serve)and I, decided to check out the La Paloma Resort and Spa hidden away in the foothill of the Catalina Mountains here in Tucson. I was amazed that such a place even exists in the arid desert that Tucson is. Of course one other such beautiful resort is the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort that I wrote a review about in a separate blog.
The La Paloma resort is a beautiful hide away place with a golf course, spa, swimming pool, great dinning, great service and above all the ambiance. I, must make mention of the pleasant staff whose service above all makes the welcome befitting and priceless. It is a premier travel resort that I highly recommend for families: Guy brought his son Daniel with us and he was vividly excited and had such fun. It is a nice place for couples who want time way, honeymoons, golfers- yes the greens are wonderful out here. Compared to other resorts I have been to, I would say this is a four star resort. There is quite an array of activities for families including movies by the pool, live music & entertainment. The resort is kept nature friendly with countless birds - a bird watchers paradise I would say. Daniel spent quite some time, trying to hit doves and luring them to him with 'apple sauce ' in the absence of bird feed, lol! Each room has a private patio. We stayed in a room with two queen beds very inviting and comfortable. I noticed there was a theme of earth tones even in the rooms ā earth tones are very welcoming and soothing. The food is on the expensive side but absolutely delicious. The gated entrance gives a great sense of security ā well not exactly the locked and guard gate, but a more private setting. The only thing I did not like was the distance from the reception to the rooms, some of the rooms are quite a walk away from the pool, and restaurant and reception are which necessitates a cart especially if you have luggage. Of course I had Guy who is the gentleman, he carried the bags and seemed not to mind the distance. With the Tucson heat, you really want to limit the distance you walk at temps over 90, lol! I guess Iām just lazy. The grounds are beautifully kept and as I mentioned nature friendly. The earthen tones of the buildings blend in nicely with the surrounding. The trees, flowers and desert plants create such harmony with nature making one very aware of their surrounding as well us welcoming you to them. If you are ever in Tucson and need a place that is out of this world, I recommend the La Paloma, for the golfer: this is your haven. For families, it feels like you actually took a trip far away from home and felt at home. |
