Westfries Museum Hoorn Reviews
Cheap and quite some stairs to walk Jan 12, 2011
This museum is about Hoorn and the region surrounding it. The museum shows the history from stone age (in the 4 basements, who were found under lots of rubble in the 90's) up to the late 1800's.
Some parts of the museum can be scary... there is a Chirurgijnskamer (Barber surgeon's room) with some skulls, a complete skeleton and some stuffed animals (all from the 1700's). All rooms are themed, so you'll find a dining room, living room, two bedrooms and a kitchen.
In one room there are four very big paintings, you can get married there, but you'll need an apointment for that.
Only one room is some times filled with modern art, that's the only room with temporary exhibitions. There are 34 rooms, so take your time. Seeing it all will take at least 2 hours.
Signs are all in Dutch, only a few foreign tourists per month.
Part of the list Things you should visit in case you're an architecture lover
