Nearby Central station Mar 29, 2011
I find this hotel nearby to Central station. Just 5 mins walk away, but finding the place without a proper map may you walk around in circles. I find the hotel staff very friendly, warm. Hotel room is clean, we took the twin sharing. Bathroom walls are glass, no lock, pattern starts from upper knee and above, so depends if you're comfortable with that. House keeping comes around 9am every morning, so don't forget to put out the sign if you don't want to be disturbed then. Breakfast is not included with online booking. It's additional EU$15 if you want it. They might have promo from time to time, so look out for them. Free wi-fi available.

I'd definitely stay there again... May 01, 2010
NB - This hotel is no longer called 'Tulip Inn'. It has joined the Westcord hotel group and is now called 'Westcord City Centre Hotel Amsterdam'.
I chose to spend a couple of nights at this hotel due to web reviews I had seen and also due to my Dutch friend confirming the location was a good one, I wasn't at all disappointed! I arrived at Central Station on the 15 min train from Schiphol airport and walked to the hotel with no problem (approx 10 mins). I stayed in room 603 on the top floor, unfortunately I didn't have the amazing views I thought I would get being on the top floor, but I didn't mind at all. 603 is a 'deluxe single room' but please don't have any visions of grandeur... whilst the room is gorgeously clean modern and clean, it is absolutely TINY! However, as a solo traveller, it doesn't need to be huge anyway. The shower room is lovely, the shower itself is AMAZING (didnt want to get out) and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location of the hotel was great. Just walk across the road to go in the direction of a Fitness First gym, numerous 'coffee shops' (regular and not-so-regular!), and shops of every single kind. H&M, Footlocker, Bershka etc - its a shoppers haven. Also within walking distance is Dam Square where they have a nice little coffee shop called 'Coffee Company' and lots of beautiful historical buildings. Also worth checking out in the area is Magna Plaza Shopping Centre, what a lovely building. I loved Amsterdam and I really quite liked this hotel. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Near station but not recommended Aug 29, 2010
If you are going to stay one night and travel to Schipol or Centraal station, this might be the last choice. If you ever stay more than one night, this is not the choice obviously. If you die for Pain de chocolat, they do have pretty good ones. HOWEVER, you will not have air-conditioning and the showers will not have soap except diluted liqued one.
The noise is beyond imagination, you will probably hear what other people say at night. The lighting is obviously weak, you cannot read book at night very well. Only recommended when you cannot find any accomodation in Amsterdam with given amount of money, still thinking that it is not a good idea to get hotel here. |
