Took the best road trip today. Totally unplanned, yet we were out of the house and on the road within 1 hour. Our inspiration was the sudden beautiful weather. I mean who in their right mind would have stayed inside on a day like this one.We took St. Rt. 60 towards Fayetteville West Virginia. Stopped off at the few scenic over looks. Acted crazy and read the poorly written grafitti that was written on the guard rail. Jumped back into the car and tackled a few more sharp curves on that r...

Dolly Sods is an amazing place in West Virginia, located inside of Monongahela National Forest. It is a very unique place, because it is a raised plateau which has a climate and landscape similar to Northern Canada. When you are driving up to the raised plateau that is Dolly Sods, it's as if you are suddenly transported into another country. The landscape instantly changes to an area of rocky plains, with wind-twisted spruce trees and sphagnum bogs. The plain...

Harper's Ferry is a great spot for both history and nature enthusiasts--the little town is rich in historical events and symbolism (mainly John Brown's violent attempt to start a fight against slavery here) and it also has some stunning views of two rivers converging in the shadow of steep ravines.
You park your car a couple of miles from the town and take a bus--I decided to walk it instead--just to soak in the nature a while. The town itself has a couple of dozen mini-muse...

WVU and Pitt are rivals. They have been for many years. We call our football games against one another "The Backyard Brawl" since a little more than an hour separates us from Pittsburgh. In the past few years, we have been athletically superior to our rivals in football, but not today. We lost, and it wasn't pretty. It was the final game of the season, and a win against Pitt ensured us a spot in New Orleans at the National Championship BCS Bowl gam...

As usual, my blogs consist of mostly photos. What better way to expierence a place than to see it. Most of these pics are in West Virginia, but a few are in Virginia. I started out in my hometown of Norfolk, VA headed north to Berkley Springs, WV to the park there for a soak in the roman bath (warm mineral water) and a massage. From there I headed West to Moorefield where I spent the night at a cozy little motel, the Evans Motel, 508 North Main St. Moorefield, WV 26836, PHONE # 304-539-7771. ...

A friend of mine picked me up this morning and we were off to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
The drive from Northern VA to Harpers Ferry doesn't take too long, just over an hour. It's a beautiful drive, which was a highlight in itself.
Harpers Ferry is in Jefferson County West Virginia, and is quite near all the boarders of West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. It's also right on the banks of both the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers; there is kind of a ravine at the bot...

In the spring of 2006, I accompanied several students on a school field trip to Seneca Rocks and Blackwater Falls. The weather was perfect for viewing the falls and for hiking the trails of Seneca Rocks. This area is truly one reason why people say "Wild and Wonderful West Virginia."

Liz and I left Chesapeake this morning. We got onto Rout 50 headed for West Virginia. The scenery is beautiful for the most part. People have a different way of life around here for sure. We saw one house what was made of 5 trailors welded together. The hills make for an interesting drive and are really steep in some places. There are signs all over the road that show busted trucks rolling down hills. We stopped only when we really had to. I gue...
