Lunch with a northern exposure. Sep 14, 2009
Named after the trail most used to climb Denali (Mt McKinley)
In the very very small town of Talkeetna there must be about a dozen places to eat, all of which seemed to be either bar and grills or cafe & pubs. In other words, they all served more beer than food. This one had less than most and had a bigger menu of food. We chose the Large one half pound hamburgers, one with fries and one with cole slaw. The waitress was quick but the cook wasn't so it took a while to get our order. The burgers came with enough onions to choke a horse. The fries were nicely done and the cole slaw was good too. A table near us ordered a banana split and it looked good, and the two ladies who had ordered it gobbled it down and licked the plate clean with lots of exuberance. They were pleased and so were we with our meal. Naturally, as in all Alaskan eateries, the price was steep. Part of the 2009 Cruise to and tour of Alaska travel blog |

Upon arriving in Talkeetna we took the shuttle bus into town and walked the streets for a couple of hours before eating some lunch at the West Rib Cafe and Pub. One half pound hamburgers with fries and a soft drink. Unfortunately it was…West Rib Cafe and Pub. One half pound hamburgers with fries and a soft drink. Unfortunately it was Coke and not Pepsi.
Talkeetna is supposedly the town that the television show Northern Exposure used as its basis. But after they were there… Northern Exposure to a small town. |
