Impressions on West Lake show Nov 22, 2011
Impressions on West Lake is done entirely on the water. That is to say the performers seem to walk on the water. Just when the spectacle of the water walking seems to wear off the performance adds additional elements to keep it fresh and wondering what is next. Though others complain about the synchronization of the music and dance or the lack of understanding of the story the best way to enjoy the show is to simply sit back and absorb it for it's visual uniqueness. Tourist trap? Perhaps but I doubt that it will disappoint for an evenings entertainment.

Just a lake May 18, 2011
I was quite honestly rather dissapointed with this place. Its always crowded, and when I went it was CROWDED!
The place is really just a lake, like any other. Sure, it has historical significance for the Chinese history, but that aside, theres not much to it.
Advise: never go in weekends with a public holiday. You'll will simply not be able to enjoy the place. It will be so overcrowded that you cannot even circle the lake.
Rent a boat, and get away from the crowd.
Try other places around Shanghai instead. See my other Shanghai reviews for more recommended places to experience Chinese culture in the area.
