Known as the gay capital of Los Angeles, West Hollywood contains the most famous area of Southern California nightlife, the Sunset Strip, as well as parts of Santa Monica and Melrose Blvds. Famous stops along the strip include the Chateau Marmont, House Of Blues, Viper Room, owned by Johnny Depp, Whiskey A Go-Go, the Roxy, and other music and comedy venues.
West Hollywood is centrally located, as it is bordered on the north by the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, on the east by the Hollywood District of Los Angeles, on the west by the city of Beverly Hills, and on the south by the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. As of the 2007 census, the city had a total population of 34,675. West Hollywood is also known for its expensive housing.
On the eastern end of the strip you will also find many (expensive) restaurants and (even more expensive) shops/boutiques.
